core truth

There is One Race, One Savior, and One Purpose.

Since One Hope Church is based upon Jesus Christ and His Word as revealed to us in Scripture, our tagline summarizes the message of salvation through Christ.

One Race

To begin, learn about your condition before God.

We were created by God for His glory:

God created one race, the human race, without sin and in His image and likeness in order that we would glorify Him (Gen. 1:27,31; Eph. 1:12; Acts 17:24-26).

We were separated from God by our sin:

When tempted by Satan to doubt the goodness of God, mankind sinned (Gen. 3:1-7), and since that time all of us have been sinners by nature and do not naturally seek after Him (Rom. 3:9-12). Our sinful nature and actions have relationally separated us from God (Isaiah 59:2). We are eternal creatures, and if not reconciled to God during this life, we will be separated from God and will suffer judgment for all of eternity (2 Thess. 1:9).

We are hopeless without God:

We are hopeless without God reaching out to rescue us (Eph. 2:1-5). We cannot be forgiven or reconciled to God through good works or even religious works, no matter how sincere (Eph. 2:8-9).

One Savior

Christ came to us.

God loves us (John 3:16) as His special creatures and came to us in the person of Jesus Christ (John 1:1-18) at the perfect time in human history (Galatians 4:4).

Christ lived without sin, died for us, and rose again.

Jesus lived a sinless life (Hebrews 4:15) and died in our place, paying the death penalty for our sin (Eph. 1:7; 1 Peter 2:24). Jesus defeated sin, death, and hell by rising again on the third day (1 Peter 1:3-6). He returned to heaven (Acts 1:9-11), and at another perfect time will return to earth, not as a suffering Savior but as a conquering King (Rev. 19:11-16).

Christ offers salvation to all mankind as a gift through repentance and faith.

Reconciliation to God and salvation from the coming judgment is offered to us as a gracious gift, paid for by God Himself through Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection (Romans 5:10; 2 Cor. 5:18-21; Eph. 2:8-9). Anyone can receive this gift of salvation by repenting of their sins and by believing in faith (Acts 20:18-21) that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that He alone can save us (John 1:12; 14:6).

ONE PURPOSE

We are to bring glory to God.

Mankind was created without sin and could have enjoyed perfect fellowship with God, yet mankind chose to sin and therefore faces the judgement of God for sin. Through the redemption and reconciliation that is made possible through our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, we can bring glory to God once again (Eph. 1:12)!

We are to love God.

We bring glory to God by loving Him above all else and doing everything for His glory. (Matt. 22:37-38; 1 Cor. 10:31)

We are to love others.

We bring glory to God by loving and serving others and helping them to glorify God too! (Matt. 5:16; 22:39; 1 Peter 4:7-11)

first steps

How to become a follower of Christ

Step 1 – Believe and Follow Christ as your Savior

In light of the truths explained above, you must make a personal decision to accept or reject the gift of salvation that Christ freely offers to you. Salvation is a decision of repentance and faith. (Acts 18:20-21) To accept this gift, you must simply talk to God through prayer and...

1. Repent of your sins as commanded in Acts 3:19 "Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out."

2. Acknowledge in faith that you believe that Jesus Christ, our One Savior, is the only way to be reconciled to God and that He will save you from eternal punishment in Hell and help you to live for Him from this day forward. - John 14:6; 2 Corinthians 5:18-21

Step 2 – Identify with Christ through Baptism

The second step in your relationship with Jesus is baptism. (Matthew 28:19) Baptism doesn’t make someone a Christian. It doesn’t wash away sin. It's simply going public with your faith and choosing to identify with Jesus Christ, our almighty, merciful Savior. Jesus was our example in baptism, and He commanded us to be baptized—to publicly show forth our heart decision and faith. Baptism pictures His death, burial, and resurrection. It also pictures your new life in Jesus Christ. (Romans 6:1-4)

Baptism is one of the first, easiest, and best ways to be a witness to others about your faith in Jesus, and to publicly declare you are not ashamed of Him.

Step 3 – Connect and Serve in the Body of Christ

In Acts 2:41, those who believed were baptized, and then they were added to the church. Once someone has believed in Jesus, their next step is to connect with a family of believers in a local church. Through these relationships, a new Christian can grow and mature in the faith and teachings of Jesus and then serve others in the church, the body of Christ and show Christ to others outside of the church.

The primary way we connect and help new believers grow is through our Sunday Growth Groups and Community Groups. There’s a place for you, and new friendships are waiting to be discovered!
